The Young Actors Conservatory (YAC): Full Throttle Professional Theatre Training
The Young Actors Conservatory is a unique intensive that offers conservatory-style training for Houston-area middle and high school students, and this year we've expanded the program so participants can study year-round! Last month we offered the Panto Project, with impressive (and immensely entertaining!) results, and in March we'll present an audition workshop packed with great tips and techniques. Then once again for summer Stages will offer the original YAC immersion program, with one session each for middle and high school students. Led by recognized theatre professionals, YAC master classes encourage participants to explore every facet of dramatic production. Details and application forms are below!
Spring Break Workshop: The Audition
March 9, 2013
This audition workshop will give you the tools to find appropriate audition material, rehearse techniques that work, and develop your "business" tools like your headshot and resume! If you want to try out audition material for that big school audition, scholarship or even college auditions, this is the workshop for you!
12:00 - 3:00 pm - Learn how to choose appropriate monologue materials and rehearse a prepared monologue and cold reading; get tips on audition dress and protocol; study how to build a resume and pick a great headshot.
3:00 - 5:00 pm - Time to perform your audition material for your coach and take a sample headshot!
Limited availability. Recommended for high school students; middle school students may call for availability.
Early registration ($75) due February 1
Regular registration ($105) due March 6
Optional headshot photo shoot including digital files for your use: $65

Summer YAC 2013
Using a total immersion method, students develop scripts; create costumes, sets and props; design lights and sound; learn movement and voice techniques; and rehearse and perform roles. Building on what they've learned, students focus on a central theme to conceptualize, write, design and perform an original theatre piece, combining the students' own material with texts taken from the work of well-known writers. The high school program culminates in a fully realized production of this work at Stages Repertory Theatre.
Summer YAC is divided into two different sessions: a 90-hour middle school program and a 120-hour high school program. Middle school applicants complete an application and interview. For high school applicants, once again this year admission is by audition only, and high school tuition is FREE for all participants, thanks in part to contributions from a generous group of donors.
All Applicants: Please review these general registration requirements!
