Calling All Flamingo Artists!
Have you, or a friend or loved one, long aspired to decorate a plastic flamingo for the holidays? YES?!?!? Then my oh my, have we got a project for you!
In celebration of the true spirit of The Great American Trailer Park Christmas Musical, we'll be decorating our lobby with DIY holiday-themed flamingos created by artists, our staff and board and YOU!
If you'd like to participate, just send us an email to reserve your "blank" flamingo, then stop by Stages and pick it up, art-ify it any way you want for the holidays, and return it by November 8 to be considered for the display.
Because nothing says "Merry Christmas" quite like a bedazzled plastic flamingo with a light-up Santa hat.
But wait, there's more!
We'll also be decorating our Trailer Park Christmas tree with DIY/found-object ornaments. Think beer can reindeer and a cigarette carton nativity and you'll be in the right ball (er, trailer) park. So if you need an excuse to throw back another six-pack, go ahead and turn those empties into Trailer Park Christmas magic and drop them on our doorstep!
One thing's certain when you tackle a piece like Road Show - people are going to have a lot to say about it. Audiences are loving this show and have been asking us great questions about its history, the production process, the Mizner brothers, and a whole lot more. As for us, we're eager to hear YOUR take on Road Show. So we've added a whole series of free, public discussion events, and you're invited!
Come see the show, then stick around to chat (and have a beer) with the cast, staff and creative team!
Friday, June 9
Director Kenn McLaughlin + Cast
What's it like to be a young actor making your professional debut in a new Sondheim musical alongside seasoned veterans? In honor of graduation season we'll ask some of the incredibly talented students and recent grads about their Road Show experiences, plus chat about YOUR questions and comments!

We continue our 2013 Surround, The Economy of the American Dream, with a FREE public reading of scenes from Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House, which inspired Rebecca Gilman's Dollhouse, playing at Stages through April 28.
The reading is free and open to the public - no tickets or reservations required! - and will take place at Stages in the Yeager Theater at 6:00 PM on Monday, April 22.
We hope you'll join us!
For additional information about the reading or the 2013 Surround, please contact Eva Laporte.
Stages Repertory Theatre invites visual artists working in all mediums (sculpture, photography, paint, all) to submit their art to Stages in conjunction with our 2013 Surround project, The Economy of the American Dream. The exhibit will open April 12, 2013, and run through June 30 in the Stages lobby area in the Houston Center for the Arts building at 3201 Allen Parkway.
We engage artists to convey their view of the American Dream: 1) What is the American Dream to you? 2) How are you living the American Dream right now? 3) How (or has) has the American Dream evolved?
Please email your submissions (limited to 6) including your website, gallery/portfolio sites or social media sites to Eva Laporte. We will review your submissions and contact you by email with details if your work will exhibit.

1978: GLITTER & GLAM!
Saturday, April 6, 2013
at Stages Repertory Theatre
We're celebrating our 35th year of making theatre in Houston by taking a little trip back to the year we were born - 1978. Disco fever was raging, Annie Hall won Best Picture, Lynda Carter (Wonder Woman!) was voted most beautiful woman in world, and Studio 54 was THE place to be seen, frequented by glitterati like Andy Warhol, Bianca Jagger, Liza Minnelli and Halston. Pull out your platforms and join us as we toast the glamorous side of the '70s (yes, there was a glamorous side)! And as a bonus, tickets to the after-party, THE FACTORY PARTY, are included with all gala ticket purchases.
All gala proceeds benefit Stages and help read on...
Please join us this Sunday for a FREE staged reading of Caridad Svich's new play Spark! The reading will be presented at Stages on Sunday evening, November 11, at 7:00pm. This work, about a family of sisters living in North Carolina, explores how a family heals after one sister returns from a recent war. Spark is part of an international reading scheme during the month of November commemorating Veteran’s Day. Stages is partnering with the Women's Center and the American Legion to discuss the issues in Spark.
Eva Laporte directs the reading, which features actors Timothy Eric Dickson (Main Street Theater: Woof), Florence Garvey (Landing Theatre: In the Blood), Michelle Ogletree (Classical Theater Company: Miss Julie), Brittny Bush and Wayne De Hart (Stages: Hank Williams: Lost Highway).
Caridad is thrilled for Spark to have its Houston premiere reading at Stages. "It is truly an honor to be able to share Spark with the Houston community, and Stages Repertory Theatre, who has a read on...
